    Description

Breathtakingly architectural and elegantly fragranced, the Crinum moorei—commonly known as the Natal Lily—is a titan of the Amaryllidaceae family. This isn't just a plant; it’s a living sculpture that brings a dramatic, exotic presence to any garden or large-scale container.

    he Visual & Sensory Highlights

    • Exotic Bell-Shaped Blooms: Rising on massive flower stalks that can reach 1.2 meters or more, each bulb produces a spectacular cluster of 5–10 large, trumpet-to-bell-shaped flowers. The petals range from a pure, luminous white to a delicate, pale pinkish-red.

    • Intoxicating Fragrance: The blooms are highly fragrant, releasing a sweet, exotic scent that is particularly potent during the calm of early summer evenings.

    • Architectural Foliage: Unlike smaller bulbs, the Natal Lily produces a magnificent rosette of long, sword-to-strap-shaped leaves. These dark green leaves can reach up to 1 meter in length and 20cm in width, creating a lush, fountain-like effect even when the plant is not in bloom.

    • Large Heritage Bulbs: The flowers and foliage emerge from a substantial, long-necked bulb, giving the plant a sturdy and impressive base.

Why the Natal Lily is a Landscape Essential

"The Natal Lily is the 'Grand Dame' of the shade garden. It offers a level of scale and drama that few other bulbs can match, making it perfect for those 'wow-factor' corners of the landscape."

      • Heat & Shade Versatility: While it loves the gentle warmth of the morning sun, it is one of the few large exotic lilies that thrives in partly shady places, making it ideal for planting under the canopy of large trees.

      • Low Maintenance Luxury: Once established, Crinum lilies are incredibly long-lived and hardy, often becoming "heirloom" plants that return with more vigor each year.
        • Drought Tolerant: While it appreciates regular water, the large bulb acts as a reservoir, making it more resilient than many other tropical-looking perennials.

        Planting & Care Guide

        • Pot Culture: Due to its massive root system and foliage, use at least a 10-inch pot for a single bulb. Ensure the pot is heavy enough to anchor the 1.2-meter flower stalks.

        • Soil Media: Use ordinary garden soil enriched with sand for drainage and well-decayed cow manure for nutrients.

        • Watering: Provide average watering on a regular basis (about 1–2 times a week depending on the weather). Avoid over-watering, especially in dormant periods.

        • Sunlight: Position your plant to catch the full morning sun but provide protection from extreme midday heat and harsh afternoon rays.

    Personal, sustainable, and educational

Our plants and mosses are hand selected at local growers with the utmost care and love. Here, they are grown in the most sustainable way possible. This way, the plants in your glass bottle are guaranteed to thrive together and you will enjoy your personal ecosystem with plants for many years to come.

We learn by doing. By creating your own terrarium with plants in a bottle yourself or with your children you learn about the various facets of the earth and thus the basis of our living existence in a creative way. Stone, potting soil, roots, plants, water and recycling all come together in this creative eye-catcher for your home.

    Good to know

    • We work with MPS-certified plants and recycled glassware.
    • Dimensions and colours of live plants may vary.
    • It is also possible that, due to the season, a pictured plant is not in stock.
    • In that case you will receive a beautiful alternative.
    • It is recommended to open your ecosystem once a month for a few hours.

    Pro Tip:

Avoid "wet feet" at all costs! To prevent your bulbs or rhizomes from rotting before they wake up, mix a handful of coarse sand or perlite into the bottom of your planting hole. This creates a "drainage pillow" that keeps water from pooling around the base during heavy rains.
